There are plenty of things in life to be afraid of. This includes death, taxes, E. coli, camel spiders, accidentally seeing your parents naked, and clowns, just for starters.
Don’t forget about the trees. Oh, they’re watching you, alright. There’s something that shouldn’t cause you to scream in fright. It is the prospect of leaving your 9-to-5 behind. You want to make a livable wage working for yourself in the online arena.
There are a few problems, however, in taking a leap into the virtual unknown. One is that “ye olde interwebs” are really no different from the real world, when it comes to the prevalence of con artists.
These days there’s a lot more anonymity and far fewer regulations. This makes it difficult to stop scammers looking to cash in on newbies. These are the folks willing to shell out their dough on too-good-to-be-true promises of easy money.
There is some good news, though. You can definitely find legitimate ways to make money online. It can be done if you’re willing to work for it. Plus, with a little knowledge and common sense you can avoid scams.
It’s always scary to try something new. Yet, you’re hardly reinventing the wheel at this point. Here are a few helpful tips to take the spookiness out of making money online.
Get Rich Quick? Get Real
Can you get rich quick online? Let’s just say it’s about as likely as winning a lottery jackpot. Despite this, there are countless scammers telling you it’s possible. Additionally, they show the testimonials to prove it. Do not get sucked in!
Scams are one of the scariest things about trying to find ways to make money online. However, they don’t have to be. That is because they’re surprisingly easy to spot. Really, you only need to answer one question. Is it too good to be true?
If the answer doesn’t immediately come to you, there’s a chance you’re somewhat gullible. More likely, however, you’ve encountered a scam that seems plausible. If that’s the case, a deep dive is necessary to determine legitimacy.
Does the website feature a lot of hype? Are there testimonials where people assure you they’ve made a boatload of cash, in record time, with little to no effort? It’s probably a scam.
Does the website make a lot of big promises? Yet, do they skimp on the details of how it actually works? It’s a scam.
Are you expected to pony up dough, without any concrete information about what you’ll get in exchange? I think you know where this is going.
A legitimate business opportunity doesn’t need to draw you in with hype. Instead, you’ll be told about the tools and training you’ll receive.
You might be asked to pay a modest sum for services. Plus you’ll have the option to cancel at any time. You won’t have to shell out an exorbitant, non-refundable fee up front.
Still not convinced? Start reading online reviews. You should not only look at customer reviews, but also reliable sources like websites that give in-depth assessments of whether or not these money-making “opportunities” deliver. Very little research is required to spot scams in most cases.
You’d Better be Proactive
Working for yourself means being a self-starter. You might be sick of micromanaging bosses. You know the ones.
They pop into your cubicle all day to tell you what to do and check your progress. However, some people need this constant motivation to get things done.
When you start your online enterprise, you’d better be organized and persistent. That is because the buck stops with you. When work doesn’t get done, your business and bank account suffer as a result. Thus, you’re the only one to blame.
This, more than anything, is what tends to scare people away from making the move to self-employment. However, you can get a pretty good primer by starting out with side jobs.
Make sure you hang on to your day job for a while. Then, spend your off-time learning and experimenting in the online arena. You may find that you enjoy what you’re doing, and you’re good at managing your time.
Additionally, you’re actually making some money. Then, perhaps, you’re ready to go the distance. Lots of people say they want to make money online. Yet, they’re just too scared to get started.
Overcoming fear is part of life. However, you also have to be realistic, so complete a test run. It will give you some clues about whether or not you’re suited for solo work.
Choosing the Right Opportunities
You’ve now figured out how to spot scams. You have determined that you have the skills and motivation to move into the self-employment arena.
In that case, it’s time to determine which online opportunities are most likely to work for you. There is no end of ways to make money online.
Are you a good writer? If so, you could blog or write white papers or e-books, either for clients or based on your own expertise. Perhaps computer engineering is your game.
With a few of your good ideas, you could create apps for consumer convenience or entertainment. Even a background in clerical work could net you virtual assistant jobs.
What if you have no marketable skills and your work experience doesn’t apply? No problem. You can find opportunities that teach you all you need to know to get started.
Additionally, they will provide useful tools and deliver community support. They might even open the door to a partnership.
What I’m talking about is affiliate marketing. It’s, perhaps, one of the easiest and most popular ways to make money online by selling goods for others.
Naturally, there are plenty of scammers. They offer programs that will supposedly show you the ropes and set you up for success. However, if you want a good example of what to look for, consider Wealthy Affiliate.
This program provides ongoing training. They give access to valuable tools aimed at preparing you to engage in affiliate marketing.
Additionally, they support you throughout to increase your odds of success. They offer a free trial. Therefore, you can see the value of the program firsthand, before you ever spend a dime.
There is no hype here. You know just what you’re getting. The best part is you have the opportunity to try before you buy. Plus, the monthly price tag for membership is clear.
Perhaps, you ultimately choose Wealthy Affiliate or another option. The point is to do your research and make smart choices. In turn, this will take the spookiness out of making money online.
