Making money online is a proposition that continues to evolve. Starting your own online business doesn’t have to be hard.
That’s especially the case with the prospect of affiliate marketing and resources. Those like Wealthy Affiliate can pave the way for success.
However, there are even easier ways to earn. This includes doing the things you might do normally and getting paid for them.
This is the type of easy money offered by Swagbucks. It’s a service that allows members to earn points.
They can be redeemed for gift cards from retailers. This includes Amazon, Walmart, and other retailers. Alternately, they can be converted to cash through PayPal.
All you have to do is join up and take advantage of opportunities to earn. This is done through shopping, searching, watching videos, and filling out their surveys.
Follow through and you start to rack up points to redeem for swag. Does it sound too good to be true? What’s the catch?
That’s what we’re here to determine. Is Swagbucks the real deal or are you simply wasting your time?
Here’s the lowdown on the self-proclaimed “web’s most popular rewards program”.
What is Swagbucks?
According to their website, Swagbucks is a site that allows users to earn free gift cards and cash. It’s done by simply performing the activities they already participate in online.
These include searching the web, watching videos, shopping, completing surveys, playing games, and more.
Doing this earns you Swagbucks, or “SBs”. They can then be redeemed for gift cards of your choice, or alternately, cash.
What is the value of SBs? It can vary somewhat from one transaction to the next. You could, for example, trade 2,500 SB for a $25 gift card.
It depends on the offers you take advantage of. Additionally, earning this much could take roughly 25 hours. This is just a rough estimate that will vary by offer and reward.
Let’s say you’re doing things you might normally do anyway. Maybe you’re searching the web or watching videos. This means you could passively earn, which is understandably desirable.
However, if you have to work for it, as with taking surveys, you’re earning about a dollar an hour. Let’s face it, that’s terrible.
How Does It Work?
Swagbucks offers a variety of opportunities to earn. If you’re looking to get something for “free”, there are a number of avenues to pursue.
One option is to earn points for shopping online. Swagbucks has teamed up with over 1,500 retailers. They include big names like Amazon, Starbucks, Target, and Walmart, just to name a few.
You’re going to shop with these online outlets anyway. Why not earn SB points for every dollar you spend?
Think of it as a free punch card. Therefore, when you spend enough, you get free gift cards for the retailers you shop at all the time anyway.
As a bonus, Swagbucks members can also access special deals and coupons. This, in turn, further increases savings/earnings.
There are other opportunities for passive earning. They include watching videos and playing games. Though, you’ll have to choose from the content available through Swagbucks partners.
You can also earn points through your regular search activity. This is done when you set your browser search engine to Swagbucks Search.
Alternately, you can use the search bar on Swagbuck.com, or visit this website: Search.Swagbucks.com.
There are less passive ways to earn, as well. The site offers deals that you can choose to participate in to earn SB.
These include things such as trying free samples or signing up for new services. You can also participate in surveys and polls provided by the site.
According to user reviews, surveys are somewhat hit or miss. You may end up trying to fill out surveys for which you are not the target audience.
For example, you might be the wrong age or gender. The problem is that you might not know until part way through the survey. Sorry, that means no SBs.
Some users have complained of connectivity issues that lock them out of surveys part way through completion (no SBs).
In addition, Swagbucks may claim a survey will only take a few minutes to complete, when it actually takes several times longer.
Yet, there is no expertise required to participate. Literally anyone can sign up for Swagbucks and start earning points.
You’re going to spend time browsing and shopping anyway. Therefore, why not make a few bucks on the side?
What are the Benefits?
The main benefit of joining Swagbucks is the opportunity to begin earning immediately. You need no qualifications to join and you can hit the ground running.
Perhaps this is why the site is so popular. Conversely, maybe it’s because the site launched in 2005. They claim to have paid out nearly $200 billion to members since inception.
You could turn your SB into gift cards for your favorite retailers or cash deposited into your PayPal account.
It’s hard to deny the ease of earning through Swagbucks. Can you actually earn a livable wage? You probably cannot.
This isn’t a get-rich-quick scheme. It’s not going to pay your rent. It doesn’t promise outrageous earnings each month. All it offers is the opportunity to earn some easy money.
You can expect small cash or credit type rewards for little to no effort on your part. Let’s say you get a $25 or $50 gift card each month.
This is for doing nothing but conducting searches through Swagbucks (and its Yahoo! powered engine) instead of Google. In doing so, you’re coming out ahead.
What are the Drawbacks?
There really are no major drawbacks to participating in Swagbucks. That is as long as you go into it with the understanding that potential for earning is minimal.
Perhaps you’re looking for a way to make money from home and earn a second income. In that case, you should keep looking.
Maybe you enjoy searching, shopping, watching videos, playing games, and answering surveys online. Plus, you’re keen to earn rewards for your everyday activities.
You want to gain access to exclusive discounts and deals. In those cases, Swagbucks delivers, most of the time.
The Final Verdict
Swagbucks has the swag. Yet, it’s on a small scale. As long as you know that going in, you’re sure to get your money’s worth, so to speak.
