Yet, have you ever considered becoming a seller on the popular retail site? Did you know you could sell items there? In truth, people like us are making substantial sums of money every month. They do it by selling items on Amazon.
You’ve possibly sold a few things on eBay before. If so, you’ll find that selling with Amazon isn’t all that different. Perhaps, you’ve considered exploring your options for earning some extra money.

Some people are earning a few thousand dollars a month by selling through Amazon. That dollar figure only multiplies around the holidays.
This can be done in a variety of ways. You can start an individual seller account or take on a more professional approach. The latter gives you more flexibility. Also, there are fewer limits on the number of listings and items you can sell.
There’s also the Fulfillment by Amazon program. You’ve probably noticed a listing or two with this language included in the description.
What it means is that you are purchasing an item that comes from a third party. However, it’s sold and shipped through the Amazon service.
Let’s say you’re a seller in the Fulfillment by Amazon program. In that case, the company does all the work. Then, you make the money.
That includes holding the item until it sells. Then, shipping it after it has sold. Additionally, Amazon offers customer support, in the event something goes wrong.
Don’t get left out. Get started selling on Amazon. I’m going to explain how it works. Plus, I’ll walk you through the entire process from listing to shipping to earning.
Let’s get to it.
Selling as an Individual
This is the way to go if you plan on taking a casual approach to selling your items on Amazon. What does “casual” mean? We’re talking about putting up fewer than 40 items for sale each month.
The items you wish to sell are also restricted by categories. Some require prior approval before listing an item within a certain category.
Some categories are totally off-limits. That is because Amazon isn’t accepting any more sellers for sales on those types of items.
At this time, there are over 20 different categories. New individual sellers can begin listing items under them. These items can be listed on the site without Amazon’s permission necessary.
However, some of these categories may limit only new, unopened items. No used or refurbished versions are accepted.
Each seller must check the guidelines that exist for the category they select prior to listing. There are many categories open to Individual sellers. They include most common household items.
Things like books, electronics, baby accessories, cell phones, home and garden items are offered. Plus, there are categories for computers, musical instruments, tools, sports equipment, toys, and more.
Categories for Approval
There are more than their 20 or so categories that are open for individual sellers. These additional categories must be approved by Amazon before listing.
Perhaps, you are selling via an Individual Sellers Account. In that case, you are forbidden from selling in these categories. That is because only Professional Sellers are eligible. Even they must request approval.
You will be charged $0.99 for each sale along with other applicable selling fees.
Selling as a Professional
Let’s say you plan on selling with more frequency. Then, you can sign up for a Professional seller subscription. It enables you to list more than 40 items each month. Plus, you have fewer limits imposed on the categories in which you can sell your items.
There are also the same 20 or so open categories that are available to individual sellers. Additionally, there are those that require approval, which is accessible to professional sellers only.
Categories for Approval
Only Professional sellers are eligible to sell in these categories. That’s because Amazon imposes high standards on a variety of items.
Amazon has strict approval protocols. They help the company ensure only the best products are being offered by the most reliable sellers. This maintains confidence from Amazon customers that the items listed are of the highest quality.
The Amazon website offers a graph that illustrates which categories are open to both types of sellers. Also, it explains those that are accessible only to professionals.
Perhaps, you wish to sell an item in one of the categories that require an approval from Amazon. It is actually very simple. It’s a straightforward process.
First, you must check your item against the eligibility criteria. This is listed on the graph under the category in which that item belongs.
For some categories, the item may need to be new. Conversely, it might need to meet some kind of standard inherent to that particular section.
Let’s say your item meets the criteria. In that case, you can contact Amazon to request an approval form. Once you receive it, fill it out and submit it back to Amazon.
Then, you will then be given a response in roughly three business days. It will inform you if your request was approved. It also lets you know if more information is required.
If it’s the latter, Amazon will ask you for the specific data necessary. Then, you will be given a time period in which to provide it all.
You will be charged $39.99 a month. That’s for as long as you maintain your professional seller subscription. Additionally, there may be with other applicable selling fees.
Becoming a Seller on Amazon
Now, you know your options. Thus, you need to decide what kind of seller you wish to be. For that, you may want to do what Amazon suggests first. They recommend that you gather up all of the items that you would like to sell.
Maybe, you’re not entirely sure yet. If so, check out all of the categories that are available to individual and professional sellers.
Next, consider how many of these things you might have or intend to have for sale. Once that’s resolved, you can decide which type of selling arrangement is best for you.
Go ahead. Sign up for your Amazon seller account. Before you know it, you’ll be ready to start listing your items.
At that time, millions of users can view, explore, and hopefully make purchases. When you’re registered with Amazon’s seller tool, you’re ready to list your items.
Step by Step Process to Selling on Amazon
Posting your items on Amazon is simple. Yet, it doesn’t require a lot of work on your part to make money.
Here are the steps necessary to get your items out there for others to purchase.
List the Item
How many items you add at once depends on the type of seller you sign up to be. Maybe, you’re an individual seller.
Then, you can place items on the Amazon Marketplace one by one. Conversely, professional sellers can add a whole bunch of items at once.
There are two methods for listing a product. First, you can list a product that has already been listed on Amazon. Additionally, you may list a product that has not yet been on the site.
All you need to do is run the UPC code or SKU. Next, write up a title, description, and other components. You need to explain the item. Tell your audience all about it and the condition it is in.
Sell the Item
Listing the item allows the Amazon community to see it. At that time, they will decide if it is something they wish to purchase.
Your listing can offer customers 1-Click purchasing. Also, you should sell it at a good price. Thus, it will make them feel like they’re getting a good deal.
Be sure that everything in the listing is completely correct. It’s best to describe the item with total accuracy.
Suppose your buyer has made the purchase through the Amazon site. It’s now time for you to prepare the item for shipping to its destination.
Be sure you pack it up safely and securely. It’s important to take great care ensuring it arrives in mint condition.
Ship the Item
You’ll know immediately when your item has been sold. That’s because Amazon will contact you.
At this point, you need to pack the item up carefully. Then, fill out the shipping label. Finally, bring the packaged item to the mailbox.
You can also sign up for Fulfillment by Amazon. This is a service that does all of that work for you.
Simply send your item(s) to Amazon. There, they will be held in the company inventory at one or many of their distribution centers.
When one of your items is purchased, Amazon will do all of the preparation and shipping work. They will get your item off safely to your buyer.
Receive Payment for Your Item
When you get paid for your item(s), Amazon deposits the money directly to the bank account listed in your seller profile.
It makes those deposits on a regular basis. It’s done for as long as Amazon has money that you are owed from sales in the Marketplace.
You will be informed whenever a deposit has been made into your account. Therefore, you’re well advised on how much money you’ve made from each item sold.
The goal is to sell a lot. That’s because the more you sell, the savvier you’ll be. You’ll know which items to list. Plus, you’ll understand how much you can earn for each purchase.
